Description

I have moved to Buzzly.Art because of Eclipse and will migrate all my MLP: FiM fanarts and my other pony creations to it. This picture won't get deleted, but I am not uploading here anymore and I don't interact with my uploads any longer. This includes new watchers, favourites, collection adds, comments and llamas.
Here is the link to the reupload of this picture on Buzzly.Art:

And here is the map shown at the beginning of the trailer!

This map is the most interesting thing from the trailer, as it is the first time we actually see a map of Equestria in the show and as there are a lot of interesting details on it.
We see a lot of places that we know, either from the show, the official comics or the official map of Equestria here, that we got in 2012:

We see familiar places like Canterlot or Cloudsdale, and of course Ponyville, places we've seen only rarely, like Appleloosa or Manehattan, and more exotic places that we either only heard about in the show or that we saw on the official map above, and that we never got to see in the show, like Tall Tale Town or Hollow Shades.
One of the most interesting things the trailer provided us with, in regards to the map, is, that we can see for the first time where Pinkie's rockfarm is located. Spike stomped on the model of the rockfarm on the map, as we saw in the Sneak Preview last year, and then stayed on this position for a while as the trailer shows us:

Apparently, Pinkie's rockfarm is very secluded, being located south of Ponyville and even south of Appleloosa (!) and only slightly north of the Macintosh Hills, basically bordering on the Badlands.
This makes you wondering if it's particularly dangerous to live on this rock farm, because, as we know from the official comics, there is a lot of nasty stuff in the Badlands and south of it.
What's also interesting is that we already know where the Equalist Village lies and that we can clearly see this place on the map, as we saw how the map showed them the location of it, last year in the Sneak Preview at SDCC.
It lies in the north-east of Equestria and east from the Crystal Empire.
With being so near at the Empire, it makes me wonder if King Sombra has anything to do with the events?

But the map that we will see in this episode also diverts a lot from the official map above, some places seem to be missing entirely and some are at other places than shown there:

The Everfree Forest: On the official map from 2012, it is located south of Ponyville, here, though, we can see it west from it.

The Badlands: They appear south-east on the old map, with the Macintosh Hills as a natural border around it, but here, the Macintosh Hills are in the middle of them and the Badlands seem to stretch themselves out further to the south.

Haysead Swamps: Here I'm not sure. The old map shows them east from the Badlands and at the same spot, there is indeed a dark area that seems to be them, but there are also a lot of palms on the map, which hints on a beach there, so, they are maybe not there at all.
This could mean that these swamps don't actually exist in Equestria and were only made up for the released map.

San Palomino Desert: Here we have a location that doesn't exist for real. On the official map, we can see the San Palomino Desert as a big desert, that is completely separated from the Badlands, but here on the map in Twilight's castle, there is instead already the ocean where the desert would be. Which means it's not there.
The San Palomino Desert is not existing in Equestria and was entirely made up for the official map.

Baltimare and Fillydelphia: This is confusing. On the official map above, we see Baltimare as being located north of Horsehoe Bay and there's indeed a town charted on this spot of the map in Twilight's castle.
But if this is Baltimare, then Fillydelphia lies north of it and there is not much space for another town. It's hard to imagine that, even though the map is not to scale, a town fits there between Baltimare and Manehattan.
It's possible that one of these two towns does not really exist in Equestria and was, again, made up for the official map. And since we know for sure that Fillydelphia exists in Equestria, as Celestia herself mentioned this town, it can only be Baltimare, that was never mentioned, neither in the show nor the official comics.
However, it's also possible that the Tree of Harmony has simply not charted Fillydelphia on the map as it is a very small town. The way Fillydelphia looks on the official map does indicate that.
So it could be that the town north of Horseshoe Bay is Baltimare, while Fillydelphia is north of it, but just not visible on the map.
There are two possibilities and it's currently impossible to determine which one is true.

Frozen North: The Frozen North is on an entirely new position. On the official map it is charted as north of the Crystal Empire and beyond the Crystal Mountains, here, however, we can see that it's north-west, where, according to the other map, Vanhoover should be located.
But we also see some ice east of the Crystal Empire and the Equalist Village, so, the official map is still partially right there. What is different, though, is that the Frozen North stretches itself out beyond south of the Crystal Mountains and begins not just north of them.
First, I even thought that the Crystal Empire is in reality at this place, in the north-west of Equestria, not in the north-east, but I threw this thought away again, as I doubt that the creators of the map above would have mixed that up so much and because there is a symbol on the map that looks very much like the Crystal Castle.
Still, the Frozen North is bigger and reaches farther to the south than what is seen on the official map, which makes the map incorrect in regards to this.

Vanhoover: I already hinted on it above, this town might not exist in Equestria as well. If we look at the official map again, we see that Vanhoover is located in a quite green region of Equestria, with lots of forests. But the map in Twilight's castle shows a lot of ice there and that this region is already part of the Frozen North, which makes it unlikely that Vanhoover is there, except if it was always located in a cold region of Equestria, but if that would be the case, the creators of the official map would have already drawn this place correctly.
So, Vanhoover is most likely not a town that really exists in Equestria and was just invented for the official map.

With all this differences, the official map of Equestria that we got in 2012 was canonically overruled now in some aspects and is now partially inaccurate.

And everything I mentioned here is not all that is interesting on this map. I kept the two most interesting things as the last ones for the end of this description.
Both west and east of Equestria we see, separated by big oceans from the continent of our ponies, two big land masses.
The one in the east was already hinted on on the official map from 2012, with the caption "Yonder to Griffons":
It is the land where the griffons live and both Gilda and Gustave le Grand come from. This also becomes apparent when we look at the environment there, a lot of high mountains and caves in them, which is fitting for a population of big, predatory birds.

In the east, we have the polar opposite:
Plain land with only a few trees, that looks quite like a savannah on a desert continent. Considering the environment that is fitting to them, this seems to be the homeland of the Zebras.
We maybe see the land where Zecora comes from here.

These two continents east and west of Equestria are the most exciting discovery this map let us make. Considering that the Tree of Harmony sends Twilight and her friends probably to missions all over Equestria where he needs their help for something and that the map he created probably shows all the places he wants them to go or of which he thinks that it will be necessary for them to go there one day, we have a good chance that we will see these two regions outside of Equestria in this season and that we can discover both the homeland of the zebras as well as the Griffon Kingdom in Season 5.
Which is something that makes me more hyped for Season 5 than anything else, because I really want to see all of the world Equestria is located on and it makes me happy that DHX is apparently willing to show us that, with building in the events regarding the map.

Season 5 could be huge in worldbuilding and I can't wait to find out if it is! :iconscootplz:

What you've identified as the Macintosh Hills should be labeled: Arimaspi Territory. The Macintosh Hills are a little to the north. I'm surprised that the Undiscovered West was left off of the map. It would be between Las Pegasus and the Smokey Mountains.
